Youngstown, OH (June 10, 2020) – The ONE Health Ohio Dietetics and Nutrition Program has been recognized by siggi’s as a finalist in the siggi’s starters grant program! siggi’s starters aims to help nutrition professionals implement a community nutrition program. Upon winning, ONE Health Ohio would utilize the funds at it’s newest location on the South Side of Youngstown. siggi’s starters will award three $20,000 grants and offer ongoing mentorship from siggi’s to help bring the program to life. Members of the community can review the The “ONE Health Grows” proposal and vote at starting at noon ET on June 1 through August 3, 2020.

Funding and support from the siggi’s starters program would help OHO to build a community garden and greenhouse to grow fresh produce to give away to our patients. Not only would we give away the produce, but we would also educate the patients on how to store, prepare, and best utilize the produce in their own kitchens says Jacquelyn Oddo, MS, RDN, LD, Director of Dietetics and Nutritional Services. Jacquelyn states that with limited grocery stores in the area, fresh produce is hard to come by for many families in the community. It is our goal to help increase access to foods that will promote health and help to manage chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, and hypertension. The dietetics department is very thankful for an opportunity to help our patients who may be experiencing food insecurity to receive the nourishment and resources they deserve.
